Collaborative Songwriting Workshop

Participants in Lee’s group songwriting workshops experience the creative process firsthand while making significant contributions to the writing of an original song. Singers provide individual written responses to a prompt that become the foundation for the lyrical content of the song. Over multiple sessions, Lee walks the students through the most important decisions related to the form, rhyme scheme, harmonic content, melody, and overall message of the song - writing the song in real time while taking input and feedback from the singers. The end result is an original, concert-ready piece and exclusive insight into the craft of songwriting.

Improvisation Workshop

Community is at the center of Lee’s work as a musician. As a natural extension of this value, Lee has developed short- and long-term programs to create a space in which people feel safe and comfortable to use their voice to interact with one another - spontaneously, playfully, and meaningfully. Guided by the belief that music is a language in which anyone can communicate freely (not just as recitation), Lee is a community singing advocate and an improvisation evangelist! He has led improvisation and circle-singing sessions with singers young and old, and he has delivered professional development for music teachers across Pennsylvania who wish to improvise more with their ensembles. Intercultural Music Workshop

Since childhood, Lee has been fascinated with intercultural and ethnic musics. His desire to learn from master-musicians and culture-bearers has led to relationships with musicians from South Africa and Guinea, and he has traveled to the island of Hispaniola to learn about the musical cultures of Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Lee has produced numerous workshops in which young American musicians have the chance to make music with these ambassadors. As a scholar of the sensitive issues surrounding intercultural music, Lee has served as a guest lecturer for seminars dealing with multicultural and ethnic musics. Lee is available to share the beautiful songs, entertaining stories, and powerful ideas he has collected throughout his experiences. If you are interested in bringing Lee for a workshop, or if you would like to explore the idea of creating a fully intercultural experience for your singers, click below to contact Lee.
